Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer announced at COP29 that the UK is setting a new target of an 81% emissions reduction by 2035, aligning with the Climate Change Committee’s recommendations. This ambitious goal builds on the UK’s legal commitment to net zero by 2050 and underscores the nation’s leadership in clean energy and sustainability.

The announcement included a £1 billion investment in a Hull wind turbine project, creating 1,300 jobs, and reaffirmed £11.6 billion in climate finance through 2026. Sir Keir highlighted the economic and energy security benefits of accelerating decarbonisation efforts, calling on global leaders to match the UK’s commitment.

With the UK already halving emissions since 1990, this target supports continued innovation in low-carbon solutions.
