Policy
IGEM enhanced its policy engagement through research, policy briefs, and stakeholder engagement across various sectors
Served as a reliable information hub for members, promoting low-carbon gases to influence energy system decisions
Responded to government consultations on biomethane production and Scotland's Heat in Buildings Bill, advocating for member voices
Released the first country case study on Germany’s Heat Hammer controversy amid consumer backlash against heat policy changes
Launched innovative grid connections research at the Winter Warmer Reception, highlighting energy challenges and gas grid connections
Reacted to policy developments with pre-election and post-election briefs, the King’s Speech, and insights on gas’s role in clean power targets
Developed a policy brief for the Department for Education on sustainable gases in the STEM curriculum, addressing knowledge gaps in schools
Actively participated in influential groups like the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Energy Studies, NEPC, various hydrogen initiatives and many more
Membership
Scholarships, Grants and Awards: reformed the application process, provided more personalised, individual support to our scholarship and grant recipients, and interviewed 10 fantastic applicants this year; awarding to 4 – we are very excited to support these individuals and hear about their academic and development journeys
CPD sampling: fantastic engagement and support from our members this year; we nearly doubled the amount of CPD records we reviewed last year and are pleased to support more of our professionally registered members with their professional development
Housing Partner Forum: launching the new platform to review and consider areas where societal benefit can be accrued from improvements to the contribution of gas engineering within social housing. The forum is supported by expertise from within the IGEM Community and encourages a free exchange of views, experience and learning to help improve areas safety and competence

29 technical training courses and 20 in-house training courses executed across the year
68 Section events have taken place across the board including webinars, workshops, site visits and social gatherings
A successful Sir Denis Rooke Memorial Lecture delivered by Joanna Whittington
Four triumphant conferences held for our members across the UK focusing a variety of topics from downstream operations, policy, biomethane and the future of energy
Partnering with the Energy and Utilities Alliance (EUA) for the Gas Industry Awards and presenting 12 awards to worthy winners from the sector
Competing for the top prize, we saw ten of tomorrow’s engineers compete in the YPPC 2024
Raising almost £10,000 for charity from fundraising efforts. These included: Alzheimer's Society, Bolton Hospice, Feeding Families, Kidney Wales, My Name'5 Doddie and Newcastle Hospitals
Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Group
Appointed Lynsey Stevenson as the Chair of the EDI Advisory Group
Launched its strategy, outlining the vision for the future and detailed IGEM’s aims moving forward
Hosted joint events with the regional Sections on unconscious bias, mental health awareness and provided networking events for underrepresented groups
IGEM HQ
Hosted a Pride Day at the office for the secretariat to share knowledge and raise funds for charity
Participated in a Community Service Day for a local school, clearing its outdoor area of weeds and debris, readying the grounds for the new school term
