Equinor's H2H Saltend has got planning permission from UK authorities, making it the second significant blue hydrogen project and the first one associated with the East Coast Cluster carbon capture and storage (CCS) network.

This milestone brings the project closer to reaching a final investment decision (FID).

The 600MW initiative aims to substitute an outdated steam methane reforming unit, responsible for generating grey hydrogen from fossil gas, with a cutting-edge autothermal methane reformer (ATR) and CCS technology.

Equinor asserts that this new system will be capable of capturing a minimum of 95% of CO2 emissions.
