Partnership forged to advance gas standards and innovation for net zero progress in India
The Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers (IGEM) and the Natural Gas Society (NGS) are excited to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on gas standards and hydrogen innovation. This partnership aims to support the transition to net zero emissions in India, leveraging UK expertise and technologies.
As the world shifts towards sustainable energy solutions, both organisations recognise the critical role of hydrogen in achieving climate goals. Through this collaboration, IGEM and NGS will work together to develop best practices and standards that facilitate the safe and efficient use of hydrogen in India’s energy landscape.
“I was delighted to receive Mr. Oliver Lancaster CEO, IGEM, U.K. at Natural Gas Society (NGS) office at Noida, India. The NGS, a registered body, is the voice of the Indian NG industry. It endeavours to provide critical inputs into sectoral policy through research, collaboration & dialogue and provides a forum for exchange of ideas and best practices across the gas value chain through application & transfer of new technologies and contributing to the formulation & review of Technical & safety standards.
“NGS looks forward to collaborating with IGEM in the areas of best practices and Standards for enabling safe and efficient use of natural gas, paving the way to achieving cleaner environment with sustainability.”
D V Shastry, Executive Director, NGS
“It has been a pleasure to meet with the NGS team on my visits to India and learn about their rapidly growing gas system to meet the needs of industry, transport and homes. I look forward to working with Mr Shastry and the rest of the NGS team, and seek opportunities for the take-up of IGEM technical standards and the growth of membership, as well as the development and decarbonisation of the sector.”
Oliver Lancaster, CEO, IGEM
The organisations also extend their gratitude to Nitin Patil, IGEM Ambassador for India, whose dedication and efforts have been instrumental in fostering this relationship. His commitment to bridging UK and Indian expertise has paved the way for this collaboration.
The MoU outlines plans for joint initiatives, knowledge exchange, and workshops all designed to enhance the understanding and implementation of gas standards and pathways to net zero carbon.
Working together marks a vital step in the global effort to combat climate change and underscores the importance of international cooperation in achieving sustainable energy goals.
