Scaling green hydrogen: Overcoming barriers to production and demand

GeoPura, in partnership with Siemens Energy, has created green hydrogen solutions to substitute diesel generators. Cunningham, a former founder of tech start-ups, personally financed GeoPura upon realising the significant reliance on diesel-powered generators worldwide.

Green hydrogen is a clean and sustainable form of hydrogen, produced using renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, or hydropower.

The process typically involves electrolysis, where water (H₂O) is split into hydrogen (H₂) and oxygen (O₂) using electricity generated from renewable resources. Unlike conventional hydrogen production methods, which rely on fossil fuels, green hydrogen produces no greenhouse gases, making it a vital component in the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Its versatility allows it to be used in various applications, including powering fuel cells, providing heat and electricity and serving as a critical input for various chemical processes.

As the world seeks to mitigate climate change and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, green hydrogen offers a promising pathway to achieving these goals while supporting sustainable development and energy security.
