Out for Comment: IGEM/SR/29 Edition 3 - Dealing with gas escapes

This Standard has been drafted by an Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers (IGEM) Panel, appointed by IGEM’s Gas Transmission and Distribution Committee and has been approved by IGEM’s Technical Coordinating Committee on behalf of the Council of IGEM. 

We are currently seeking comments on IGEM technical standard IGEM/SR/29 Edition 3 - Dealing with gas escapes.

This standard sets out the requirements for dealing with gas escapes safely. It primarily deals with gas escapes from Natural Gas piped supplies and systems, but also applies to other gases.

The standard provides requirements for, and information on the responsibility, methods and personnel involved in dealing with a gas escape.

The standard details:

  • Legal and allied considerations
  • Procedures and Communication
  • Actions on site
  • Safe working practices
  • Gas escapes from non-gas transporter networks
  • Landfill biogas
