Out for Comment: IGEM/GM/8 Edition 3 Parts 3, 4 and 5

This Standard has been drafted by an Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers (IGEM) Panel, appointed by IGEM’s Gas Transmission and Distribution Committee and has been approved by IGEM’s Technical Coordinating Committee on behalf of the Council of IGEM.

We are currently seeking comments on IGEM technical standards:

  • IGEM/GM/8 Edition 3 - Meter installations of flow exceeding 6 m3 per hour Part 3 Fabrication, installation, testing and commissioning
  • IGEM/GM/8 Edition 3 - Part 4 Operation and maintenance
  • IGEM/GM/8 Edition 3 - Part 5 Notices and labels.

These draft Standards have been prepared by a Panel under the chair, David Harper.

The review of IGEM/GM/8 Edition 3 - Meter installations of flow exceeding 6 m3 per hour Part 3 Fabrication, installation, testing and commissioning has resulted in few changes to the requirement, but clarity where appropriate to the following:

  • Legislation
  • British and European Standards
  • Thermal mass meters
  • Site environment – Waste
  • Handover information and records
  • Figures updated adding Meter inlet pressure versus flow rate (illustrative).

The review of IGEM/GM/8 Edition 3 - Part 4 Operation and maintenance has resulted in few changes to the requirements, but clarity where appropriate to the following:

  • Legislation
  • British and European Standards
  • Thermal mass meters
  • Gas Suppliers’ Safety Inspections requirements removed
  • Operational checks
  • Secondary instruments - Flow computers
  • Replacement/updating and removal of meters/ meter installations.

The review of IGEM/GM/8 Edition 3 - Part 5 Notices and labels. has resulted in few changes to the requirements, but clarity where appropriate to the following:

  • Legislation
  • British and European Standards
  • Thermal mass meters
  • Testing from the MIV
  • Data Plates
  • Meter removal
  • Figures and adding:
    • Typical notice of gas pressure settings
    • Guidance for testing from the MIV
    • Typical labels for identifying removed metering equipment.
