Breakthrough reactor converts CO2 from boilers to methane
In a new approach to tackle climate change, researchers have developed a new reactor system that turns CO2 emissions emitted from small boilers into methane fuel, offering a promising strategy for mitigating climate change.
Boilers can be difficult to decarbonise solely through improved combustion efficiency, so researchers are turning to alternative methods, such as capturing and converting the CO2 emissions.
A specific type of membrane reactor, called the distributor-type membrane reactor (DMR), facilitates chemical reactions as well as separate the gases. While DMRs are used in certain industries, their application for converting CO2 into methane, especially in small-scale systems like boilers, has remained relatively unexplored.
