Helping households stay warm: Cadent Foundation’s Winter Warmer campaign

Cadent Winter Warmer

Thousands of UK households in vulnerable situations will benefit from essential winter supplies, thanks to the Cadent Foundation’s Winter Warmer Campaign. Now in its fifth year, the initiative will see close to 5,000 winter warmer packs distributed across Cadent’s network, providing vital support during the colder months.

Working in partnership with community action charity Groundwork, the packs are distributed as emergency interventions to those most in need. Each pack includes items like hot water bottles, gloves, scarves, hats, and blankets—essentials designed to keep households warm through the winter. Distribution is carried out through Groundwork’s local community hubs, food banks, and other support services.

Since its inception, the Winter Warmer Campaign has delivered critical support to approximately 20,000 people across the UK, with over £800,000 worth of essential items donated by the Cadent Foundation.

Addressing the growing challenges of fuel poverty
This year’s campaign comes amidst mounting pressures on UK households, with changes to the Winter Fuel Allowance and rising energy bills leaving many in fuel poverty. Julia Dwyer, Director of the Cadent Foundation, highlights the importance of the campaign:

Too many households are choosing not to turn on their heating in fear of how much it will impact their winter fuel bills. Our Winter Warmer Campaign offers immediate support to those most in need, and we’re committed to working with our charity partners to help households stay safe and warm.

Graham Duxbury, Chief Executive of Groundwork UK, echoes this sentiment:

Winter can be a frightening time for many, with cold temperatures posing serious health risks. By distributing these packs and offering practical advice through our Green Doctor programme, we can provide immediate relief while helping households reduce their bills in the long term.

Supporting sustainable solutions
The winter warmer packs are part of Groundwork’s Green Doctor programme, which offers free, impartial advice to help households save energy, manage bills, and access additional support. The Cadent Foundation, funded by local gas network Cadent, remains committed to finding sustainable solutions to fuel poverty and ensuring people can live safely and comfortably in their homes.
