From Sugar Cane to Sustainable Mobility: Toyota's New Biomethane Hilux
Toyota has introduced the first biomethane version of its popular Hilux pick-up in Brazil, showcasing the prototype during the G20 Summit in Foz de Iguazú, where global leaders discussed economic and environmental strategies to combat climate change.
The biomethane used in the Hilux is produced from sugar cane waste, a by-product of ethanol production, a widely used biofuel in Brazil. By utilising this local organic material, Toyota is highlighting the potential for biomethane to be generated in rural areas through biodigesters that process agricultural and livestock waste.
The Hilux biomethane model represents a step forward in the use of green gases to help meet decarbonisation targets, making sustainable mobility a reality in rural regions.
