Citybus makes history: First hydrogen double-decker bus completes cross-harbour journey

hydrogen bus journey

Citybus has successfully completed the first cross-harbor trip of Hong Kong’s hydrogen double-decker bus on Route 170. The journey marked a significant step towards the company's goal of a fully hydrogen-powered fleet by 2045.

The hydrogen bus embarked from Wah Fu Bus Terminus, making its way to Sha Tin Station via Route 170, which passes through Aberdeen Tunnel, Cross-Harbour Tunnel, and Lion Rock Tunnel. This trip was historic as it was the first time a hydrogen bus travelled the route connecting Hong Kong Island and the New Territories.

Richard Hall, Citybus's Managing Director, announced the company’s commitment to phasing out diesel buses, replacing them with hydrogen models on a one-for-one basis. The aim is to transition entirely to hydrogen or electric buses by 2045.
