Celebrating our 2024 IGEM Scholarship and Grant recipients
We are dedicated to fuelling the future of the gas industry by supporting the next generation of engineers and innovators. Through our scholarships, grants, and awards we aim to empower individuals who are passionate about shaping the future of energy.
These opportunities are designed to help people in the gas industry progress in their educational journey and professional development, whether they are an aspiring undergraduate, a current student, or a professional seeking to advance their career.
This year, we are proud to recognise four exceptional recipients who have not only excelled academically but have also shown a deep commitment to the energy sector. With the support of our funding, they are set up to drive innovation and contribute to the ongoing evolution of the gas industry. Join us as we celebrate their achievements and learn about their plans to make a lasting impact in the world of energy.
Arran Meadowcroft, recipient of a Prospective Undergraduate Scholarship
His remarkable dedication to technology and data analysis reflects his passion for engineering and innovation.
"Arran’s interest in engineering started early on in high school, and although his first laptop repair didn’t go as planned, it lit a spark as he became fascinated with technology, how things worked, why they broke, and how he could fix them," commented our Scholarships Panel.
Emily Kanagasabay, recipient of a Prospective Undergraduate Scholarship
Our panel said: "Emily is a passionate environmentalist who has volunteered to maintain a local scrub land and has impressed us with her journey to the final of the Big Bang competition, where she showcased a tool she developed for individuals who are visually impaired."
Harry Draper-Barr, recipient of a Prospective Undergraduate Scholarship
Harry’s insights into the fusion of digital innovation and the gas industry set him apart. Members of the Scholarship Panel said: “Harry will be studying Electronic and Information Engineering at Imperial College London. Although this field might not be typically associated with the gas industry, Harry has identified how advancements in digital and software technologies are essential for modernising the broader energy sector.”
Declan McGuckin, recipient of the EngTech Grant
Declan’s proactive approach to self-improvement and commitment to his professional journey make him a deserving recipient. “Declan’s self-drive to enhance his engineering skills is truly commendable. He recognises that a solid grasp of job-specific knowledge, coupled with a broader understanding of the industry, is key to his development as an engineer,” commented our Scholarships Panel.
IGEM is proud to support the next generation of engineers who are passionate about shaping a sustainable energy future. Applications for our 2025 scholarships, grants, and awards will open next April.
