IGEM is excited to announce that we have entered the annual Dragon Boat Race on the River Tyne in Newcastle.
The day begins at 9am with a traditional Chinese opening ceremony. Stages run across the day with finals around 3:30pm. The event concludes at approx. 4:30 pm with presentations.
The event has been growing year-on-year, the day is fun and action packed, with plenty of opportunities to relax, socialise, and enjoy the occasion in between races and it is all for a great cause with the chosen charity for this year’s event being Newcastle Hospitals Charity, an incredibly important charity making a real difference for the patients, staff and communities of Newcastle Hospitals.The charity supports pioneering new approaches to exceptional healthcare; key clinical research; training of healthcare professionals; initiatives to tackle health inequalities, as well as an arts programme which works to improve the hospital environment and enhances the wellbeing and recovery of patients and staff.
Participation in the boat race is for members is free and £20 for non-members.
Early registration is recommended if you want to take part and represent ‘The IGEM Flames’ as places are limited at 17, with up to 16 rowers and 1 drummer in the boat.
Finally, if you don’t fancy getting involved with the rowing and would prefer to watch from land on the day then save this date in your calendar, you're more than welcome to attend and bring friends and family! As well as the action on the water there will be lots of entertainment and things to get involved in on land throughout the event.
