The Midlands Section will be holding their AGM at IGEM House
The current Section Chair, Marc Owen, will present an overview of the past year and the incoming Chair will present their vision for the coming year.
The Annual General Meeting will follow the normal agenda:
• Receiving the year end statement of accounts from the Treasurer
• Receiving the annual report of the Management Committee from the current Chair
• Receiving the list of Officers, Members of the Committee
Following the AGM, the Section will be visiting the Severn Trent AD site.
The Severn Trent Derby AD plant processes household and commercial food waste, managing up to 75,000 tonnes of solid and liquid waste annually. This waste is transformed into biomethane, which is fed into the gas grid, while the site also produces high quality bio-fertiliser for local farmland. During the site visit, Severn Trent will provide a full site tour and explain the process from start to finish. They will also talk through the challenges they face on the site and options for future expansion.
All of their AD facilities are approved for processing category 3 animal by-products, allowing them to accept a diverse range of food waste, including:
- Production waste from food and beverage manufacturing (both solids and liquids)
- Packaged food waste, including surplus, spoiled, or off-spec stock, out-of-date products, stock clearances, factory breakdowns and QC failed items
- Food collected during trade waste collection
- Restaurant and catering waste
- Bakery and bread products
- Domestic food waste collected at kerbside
- Liquids and very wet waste such as compost leachate, alcohols, fats and oils
