Technical - Gas Measurement Series Standards

These Standards address planning, materials, design, construction, location, housing, testing, commissioning, operation, maintenance and labelling of gas meter installations in Networks and on consumers' premises. These Standards apply for all meters on industrial and commercial premises and for meters for flows greater than 6 cubic metres per hour on domestic premises. Maximum operating pressures up to 100 bar are covered. All Standards primarily address Natural Gas but many principles may be adopted for other gases such as LPG. The Ofgem MAMCoP and OAMI CoP's 1/b and 1/c stipulate compliance with these Standards for compliance with the Codes. Under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations, compliance with these Standards is recognized as a means to comply with relevant regulations.

  • IGE/GM/4 - Flowmetering practices (> 38 bar and < 100 bar)

    • specification, design, installation and operation of meter installations for high accuracy flow measurement of piped Natural Gas operating within the pressure range exceeding 38 bar and not exceeding 100 bar.

  • IGEM/GM/6 - Non-domestic meter installations. Standard designs

    • covers standard designs for either a diaphragm or rotary displacement (RD) meter installations with meters of badged capacity exceeding 6m3/h and not exceeding 1076 m3/h, with a maximum operating pressure (upstream) not exceeding 75mbar (within its Scope) and is a standard means of complying with IGE/GM/8.
    • IGEM/GM/6 is a pre-requisite for complying with MAMCoP (Category 3) and/or Ofgem (formally Ofgas) CoP/1b.

    • complements the Office of Gas Supply (OFGAS) Codes of Practice (CoPs), the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem) MAMCoP and the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR) 
    • covers meter installations of maximum operating pressure (MOP) not exceeding 75 bar.
    • applies to installations containing Natural Gas (a 2nd family gas as defined by BS EN 437) in the gaseous state.
    • covers primary and secondary meter installations and associated volume conversion equipment and all associated electrical equipment and connections, in industrial and commercial premises and which have been installed to BS 6400-1, BS 6400-2, IGE/GM/4, IGEM/GM/6, IGE/GM/8 and IGEM/GM/5, as appropriate.

  • IGEM/GM/8 - Non-domestic meter installations

  • IGEM/PRS/1 - Meter Installation Fittings

    This Specification gives the technical requirements for selected meter installation fittings and provides guidance to meter installation designers, constructors and installers.

    Fittings are for use with 1st, 2nd and 3rd family gases as defined in BS EN 437 at temperatures between ‑20°C and +60°C. Each fitting is for use at MOP and DMIP as specified in Section 4.

    IGEM/PRS/1 is intended to be read in conjunction with BS 746, which also covers meter installation fittings. The majority of the fittings contained within this document are not specifically included in BS 746. However in a small number of cases the fittings appear in both documents, it is to be noted that this document has additional requirements over and above the requirements in BS 746.

    This Specification also sets out the requirements for type testing and requires consideration of the life cycle of the product and its potential effect on the environment.

  • IGEM/PRS/28 - Medium pressure single-stage regulators for gas flow rates not exceeding 6 m3 h-1

     

               This Specification:

    • is part of a series of IGEM publications that provide specifications selecting medium pressure meter regulators
    • defines the requirements for single stage MP meter regulators with integral slam-shut device for use with 2nd family gas at flow rates not exceeding 6 m3 h-1.
    • sets up the requirements for product type and production testing
    • requires consideration of the life cycle of the product and its pontential effect on the enviroment

    Regulators to this specification incorporate a single stage pressure regulating device with integral relief valve and an overpressure slam-shut device that meet the requirements of Appendix 6. They have a nominal outlet pressure of 22mbar.

  • IGEM/PRS/29 - Medium pressure two-stage meter regulators for gas flow rates not exceeding 6 m3 h-1

    This Specification defines the requirements for two-stage medium pressure (MP) meter regulators for use with 2nd family gas (see BS EN 437) at flow rates not exceeding 6 m³ h-1. Each regulator will have to be suitable for use on a pressure tier, or range of tiers, as defined in Table 1.

  • IGEM/PRS/33 - Meter regulators of nominal diameter 32 mm (1¼ inch) and not exceeding 150 mm (6 inch) and for inlet pressures not exceeding 75 mbar

    This Specification provides requirements for meter regulators for use with:

    • 2nd family gas (see BS EN 437)
    • low pressure distribution Networks (with pressures as defined in GDN/PM/GT/1, see A2.5 in Appendix 2 and Appendix 5 of IGEM/GM/8)
    • meter installations complying with IGEM/GM/6 and IGEM/GM/8
    • a nominal outlet pressure of 21 mbar and
    • nominal diameter DN32 (1¼ inch NB) and not greater than DN150 (6 inch NB).

    Note:       GDN/PM/GT/1 defines the following pressures at the inlet to the meter installation:

    • maximum incidental pressure - upstream (MIPu) = 200 mbar
    • maximum operating pressure - upstream (MOPu) = 75 mbar
    • lowest operating pressure - upstream (LOPu) = 25 mbar
    • design minimum pressure - upstream (DmPu) = 19 mbar.
