The Section Committee

Tommy Knott, North West Section Chair

NW - Tommy Knott website

Tommy has more than 15 years' experience of working in a management role within the gas industry, initially working for Fusion Provida as a Depot Manager and gas specialist. Following his move to the Future Energy Group in 2016, as Plant and Fleet Manager, he has been heavily involved in improving the group's supply chain.

Following from his year as Chair in 2017-18 Tommy is continuing in the role for 2018-19. This year Tommy and the North West committee are planning a series of events ranging from technical paper evenings with keynote speakers to industry site visits across the region. The ever popular Section Christmas lunch is set to take place on 12 December and is a great opportunity to network with colleagues across the industry.

As part of his year as Chair Tommy wants to focus on encouraging more people to join the Section committee, helping them to plan exciting and interesting events in their area.

Shobna Mistry, Section Secretary

Shobna started her career in the gas industry in 1984 as a part time service clerk with North West Gas based at Bolton and working full time from 1986. Over the years Shobna worked in various departments within British Gas including Meters, Finance, Network Records and Model Maintenance; whilst also studying part-time at Bolton College where she was awarded a BA (Hons) Degree in Business Studies.

In October 2000 Shobna gained the role of Network Support Assistant whilst also undertaking the duties of ISO 9000 Quality Rep which involved maintaining ISO accreditation and undertaking quality audits. In addition to the roles above Shobna was also the secretary of the community involvement group, a STEM ambassador in schools and also worked virtually as a PA for the Planning Manager and was the main coordinator on 'Claim the main' programme.

In June 2005 a major change saw Shobna move out of Bolton Office to start work on the National Grid Alliance contract within the design team, as a design assistant. It was her Design Manager who introduced her to IGEM and having joined as committee member progressed to the North West Section Secretary. Shobna is also a Trustee of the IGEM benevolent fund.
