North East & Yorkshire Section
IGEM has a network of Sections that enhances membership by
offering a local perspective and enabling involvement with issues
in and around the gas industry. The Sections are run by volunteers
who organise a range of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
events and networking opportunities.
Each Section has its own Chairperson and Secretary to deal with
any queries you may have within your area.
Chairman North East & Yorkshire Section
With over 35 years' experience in
the gas industry Glen started his career as an apprentice
straight from school in 1979 with North Eastern Gas. He
completed his British Gas apprenticeship in 1982 and became
a Gas Governor Craftsman. In 1989, Glen changed his
career path and moved into the distribution side of
the gas business, undertaking both office and operational
activities in the Yorkshire area. This covered a range
of duties including planning, scheduling and
surveying. Glen continued his career over the next 26
years, taking a number of different roles in various
locations throughout the north east of England. He said:
"During my year as Chair, I would like to reach out to the
wider gas business - not just operational engineers, and
I would like to engage with our younger people within
the gas business and colleagues that may have more of an
administrative role than an operational one." Glen has a
full year of events planned which include CPD workshops,
innovation events, technical site visits and an
annual charity ball. In his spare time Glen is a
keen motorcyclist and enjoys running.
Mark is Innovations Director and Synthotech Limited, where he is
responsible for identifying and developing innovative solutions for
the global gas industry using process and technology, specifically
looking at driving through safety, risk mitigation and efficiency
into distribution networks.
His hobbies, before Children, included hill walking, classic car
tinkering, diy and socialising. Now, with Children, he just runs
round after them, dreaming of hill walking, classic car tinkering,
diy and socialising!
