Midlands Section

IGEM has a network of Sections that enhances membership by offering a local perspective and enabling involvement with issues in and around the gas industry. The Sections are run by volunteers who organise a range of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) events and networking opportunities.

Each Section has its own Chair and Secretary to deal with any queries you may have within your area.

The Section Committee

The Midlands Section committee host regular events throughout the year, these can include technical visits, industry paper presentations or social events.

The committee have a monthly meeting, usually held at Meetpoint Midlands at IGEM House, Kegworth. The meetings discuss Section activity and are usually for an hour. Attendance can either be in person or by phoning in. If you are interested in joining the committee please contact

Ben Kuchta, Midlands Section Chair

Ben Kuchta website

Ben Kuchta is an award winning inventor and entrepreneur with a global portfolio. He is one of the youngest Chartered Engineers within IGEM and has nearly a decade of experience within gas utilisation, product development and management.

He initially trained as an electrician and established what is now known as Quantic Corporation Limited in 2010. After working as a Gas Safe Registered technician and promoting quality and safety Ben became the Managing Director in 2012.

During his career Ben met with families devastated by carbon monoxide poisoning and decided to help reduce the deaths, injuries and costs of this silent killer by funding and designing a new technology that can turn off defective gas boilers.

"It's a great pleasure for me to Chair the Midland Section committee. I look forward to exploring and celebrating our industry through the exciting events we have lined up throughout the year.

"There will be events over the coming months focused on modern manufacturing, future fuels and infrastructure coupled with competitions."

Jordan Rowbottom, Vice Chair

Jordan has been working in the gas industry for 14 years starting out as an advanced apprentice to become a First Call Operative for National Grid Distribution back in 2004. After six years in Distribution he moved to National Grid Metering (I&C) as a Technical Engineer, Asset Integrity Manager and Technical Manager and more recently worked in the Transmission for 10 months. In June 2018 Jordan moved to Squire Energy as their Head of Asset Management and is responsible for the management of their Metering and Independent Gas Transporters (IGT), which go live in Autumn 2018.

Jordan became an Incorporated Engineer with IGEM following the completion of his Engineering degree with Open University in 2016.

In 2018-19 Jordan will also be the Chair for IGEM's Young Persons Network (YPN) committee. In addition to this he acts as a Mentor for IGEM colleagues looking to secure professional registration. Through both IGEM roles Jordan hopes to increase membership in the Midlands and across the UK of the younger generation of engineers who are coming into the industry, making IGEM an attractive prospect to help career and professional progression and to make the most of some of the fantastic events on offer through IGEM.
